Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they signify for your Internet site?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which could be accessed only if a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized individuals could check out its content. This function can be used for the main folder of a given Internet site or just for a particular subfolder depending on your preferences. For example, when you are creating a new site and you do not want people to see it prior to it being 100% ready, you may want to restrict the access to it completely, and if you need only some individuals to be able to access specific files, you can password-protect only a specific folder, while the remaining portion of the website may be seen by everyone. In either case, a “403 Forbidden” error page shall appear if the login details the visitor enters are not correct. Even a direct link to a file will not work provided any folder above it is password-protected.

When you navigate to the Password Protection section, you'll have to select one of the domains or subdomains that you have in the account and then choose if the protection should be switched on for the main folder or for a subfolder. Then enter the username and the password that you would like and you shall be all set to go. A tiny padlock symbol inside the File Manager section will tell you that a certain folder is password-protected. In the exact same way you shall be able to add several usernames and passwords for the same folder if you want several people to have their own login credentials.
